FOOD SAFETY: Top 9 Healthy Grilling Tips

Before you turn on that grill, follow these Top 9 Healthy Grilling Tips:

1)  Marinate before grilling and with herbs, if possible.
2)  Drain off excess marinade so as not induce flames.
3)  Place food on cold racks at beginning of cooking to prevent char marks on the food.
4)  Avoid charcoal briquettes that contain chemicals, and ignite the grill with an electric starter or chimney starter with newspaper—not lighter fluid.
5)  Moderate heat by having a cooler area on the grill.
6)  Use a cooker or barbecue grill where you can raise or lower the rack.
7)  Use a cooker with a cover and base vent to control the flame or eliminate it.
8)  Turn foods frequently, such as with tongs, to prevent charring.
9)  Use a meat thermometer.

If these Top 9 Healthy Grilling Tips don't turn you into the next Bobby Flay, stick to deli-meat sandwiches.  Need I say more?
